Competitor ranking above you

They are not better than you. They are easier for Google to choose.

When a newer or smaller competitor sits above you, it is almost never about the quality of the work. It comes down to signals: whose profile is more complete, whose site is clearer, whose reviews are fresher, who is paying for the top. Signals can be measured, and they can be beaten.

What it costs

Second place on Google is not a silver medal. It is a missed call.

Most people choose from the first few names they see. Below that, a good business looks like it does not exist.

01

The call goes to them

The customer never knew you were an option, so there is no second chance to win them.

02

Referrals check Google too

Even a warm referral searches your name first. Whatever ranks above you shapes that first impression.

03

It compounds

More calls bring more reviews, which bring better rank. The gap grows every month it is ignored.

Where the gap usually is

Six signals decide who goes first. Falling behind on even one can cost the spot.

01

Their profile is more complete

More services listed, the right category, fresh photos. Google has more to go on, so it picks them.

02

Their reviews are fresher

Not necessarily more, just more recent. Recency reads as a business that is busy right now.

03

Their site says it plainly

The city and the service are on the page in words, not buried in a slider or an image.

04

Their details match everywhere

Same name, address, and phone across directories, so Google is confident it is one real business.

05

They pay for the top

Some of the spots above you are ads. You cannot outrank an ad, but you can run a better one.

06

AI can describe them

When someone asks an assistant, it repeats what it can confirm. Clear businesses get named.

What you get

A plain side by side. You, them, and the difference.

This is the kind of table we hand you after the first review. The values below are a made up example to show the format; yours will come from your real market.

FAQ

Questions about competitors

Still not sure? Ask. You will hear back from the person doing the work.

Ask a question
They have been in business for less time. How are they above us?

Age is not much of a ranking signal on its own. Google ranks the listing it is most confident about for that search, and a newer business with a complete, active profile and fresh reviews can easily look more confident than an older one that has gone quiet.

Are they doing something shady?

Sometimes, such as fake reviews or keyword stuffed business names, and those can be reported. Most of the time they are simply doing the basics more consistently.

How long until we pass them?

It depends on how wide the gap is and how active they are. Profile and site fixes can show up in weeks. Review momentum and authority take months. We show you the gap first so the timeline is realistic.

Can we just outspend them on ads?

You can win the paid spots that way, and sometimes that is the right short term move. It does not fix the map or AI answers, which is where most of the long term calls come from.

Do you work with our competitors?

We will tell you if there is a conflict before we start. We do not run the same market for two competing businesses.
